THE INVESTIGATIVE CONCLUSION !!

We just want to further comment or give a reaffirmation on that posting that was sent us attacking the Investigative Judgment doctrine. That post stated that the scriptures tell us at face value that the atonement is supposed to be finished in 1844 if anything, contrary to Adventist interpretation, and ultimately told us that the actual fulfillment of it points to some uncertain time in the future when the Atonement will finally be finished. The wording said that then shall the Sanctuary be cleansed after the 2300 days. It therefore must be cleansed or finished being cleaned. The post therefore told us that we were wrong on this and then gave its interpretation that the actual fulfillment is at some indefinite time in the future.

We had already pointed out how this theory is false. It is totally contrary with all that those attacking Adventism had been telling us. It contradicts what they have been saying that the Atonement was through, complete or ended at the cross. It contradicts what certain ones had been telling us when they stated that no one can know when Christ will come. Many who attack Adventism have been posting that the judgment will be when Christ comes. At the end of the Atonement is exactly when Christ will come. For Christ to actually answer the saint for the benefit of Daniel, to tell him that the process of the cleansing of the sanctuary will actually end in 1844 is to shoot many who attack the concept in the feet and tell them when Christ is actually coming. Some have done all but walk on hot coals to make us know that no one can do this.

Yet we can more understand the truth of the matter when viewing the ritual symbols, because before the Day of Atonement came, trumpets were blown in order to clearly warn everyone of its approach. God's people were not left without warning of this very crucial event. The post that was sent to us put everything that was clear into uncertainty of a future event that others can challenge and miscalculate. Actually, the only purpose of all that research is only to destroy Adventism. No matter what time in the future the time comes, when anyone interprets the start of the 2300 days, the author and all the others who do similar research will challenge it until Christ comes.

THE ONLY FULFILLMENT OF THE TRUMPETS--THE ONLY FULFILLMENT OF THE WORLD BEING WARNED ABOUT THE DAY OF ATONEMENT BEGINNING IN HEAVEN IS THE MILLERITE MOVEMENT!!

A great honor has indeed been given to a rather obscure and constantly attacked group!

Therefore, the cleansing of the sanctuary could not have ENDED in 1844. This is first because to predict such a thing is to tell when Christ is coming. Second: to predict such a thing is to have the start of the cleansing of the sanctuary be into the Dark Ages--something the very scripture told us was delayed because the truth was cast down to the ground and the sacrifices were profaned by the Little Horn. Thirdly, is that if it started in the Dark Ages, IT WOULD START WITHOUT ANY WARNING TO GOD'S PEOPLE OR THE HUMAN FAMILY!

The late Dr. C. Mervyn Maxwell, in his book, "God and His Sanctuary" wrote concerning the Day of Atonement, WE believe on page 31:

The day on which the sanctuary was cleansed is called in the R.S.V. and the K.J.V. the "day of atonement." It is well known even to nonreaders of the Bible by its Hebrew name, Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur was and still is observed on the tenth day of the seventh month of the traditional Jewish year, a date that coincides roughly with the month of October. In Bible times the "day of atonement" was the most portentous day in the religious calendar. It was the only day when the high priest was permitted to enter the most holy place, the innermost compartment of the sanctuary.

pg. 32 The people's part. It is most important to learn that the people of Israel were expected to become deeply involved in the religious meaning of the Day of Atonement. To alert the Israelites to the great day just ahead, the priests summoned them to a sacred meeting on the first day of the seventh month (Rosh Hashanah) by blowing an ALARM on their long, straight, silver trumpets. Leviticus 23:23-25; Numbers 10:1-10. These trumpets seem always to have been used in pairs. As their mellow tones rose, clear as sunbeams, above the noisiness of a community, the children no doubt ran home to shout, "They're blowing the trumpets. Listen, everyone!" NINE DAYS FOR PREPARATION FOLLOWED. The Day of Atonement, the tenth day of the seventh month, could, like our Christmas, fall on any day of the week. But whatever day it fell on, it was as sacred as the weekly Sabbath day. Leviticus 23:26-32. Whereas, however, the Sabbath was a day for joy (Isaiah 58:13, 14), THE DAY OF ATONEMENT WAS AN OCCASION FOR THE PEOPLE TO "AFFLICT" THEMSELVES. THEY WERE TO ENGAGE IN DEEP SPIRITUAL SELF-EXAMINATION. A custom arose of fasting on the day.

The purpose of the Day of Atonement was the removal of sin, ceremonially from the sanctuary and truly from the people. Through Moses, God told the Israelites that the high priest entered the most holy place not only to "make atonement for the sanctuary" but also to make atonement "for you, to cleanse you," so that 'from all your sins you shall be clean before the Lord" (see Leviticus 16:30-33). Leviticus 16:29, 30 specifically states that this removal of sin was the reason they were to afflict themselves. They were to afflict themselves "for"-that is, because-an atonement was being made for them. It was taught very clearly that the atonement would not benefit the people if they did not afflict themselves. The Day of Atonement offered no magic and encouraged no superstition. The people were taught that "whoever is not afflicted on this same day shall be cut off from his people." Leviticus 23:29. To make the point dramatically urgent, God added, "Whoever does any work on this same day [that is, whoever refuses to keep it as a sacred, solemn Sabbath], that person I will destroy from among his people." It was a day for at-one-ment. God had appointed the day; He had designed the mercy seat, consecrated the high priest, and provided the atoning blood. Those who refused reconciliation evidently chose separation, and God honored their decision. DAY OF ATONEMENT/DAY OF JUDGMENT. THE REQUIREMENT THAT PERSONS WHO REFUSED TO TAKE THE DAY SERIOUSLY SHOULD BE "CUT OFF" IMPLIES THAT THE DAY OF ATONEMENT WAS ALSO A DAY OF JUDGMENT. ANY ISRAELITE WHO REFUSED TO ENTER SERIOUSLY INTO THE RELIGIOUS PROMISE OF THE DAY WAS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY THE ELDERS, TRIED, SENTENCED, AND PUNISHED.

The requirement to 'afflict" themselves was at first a completely spiritual one. The people were expected to observe the Day of Atonement as a very sacred occasion on which to worship God, pray earnestly, confess sin, and make wrongs right. They were to afflict their souls by probing their memories and their motives to see if they were really sincere in their religious profession.

Jewish rabbis have long described the day as one of judgment. In fact, Jewish tradition has expanded the concept of judgment to include the first day of the month (Rosh Hashanah) as well, and even all the days in between, with final sentence being pronounced on Yom Kippur. "THE IDEA OF A UNIVERSAL DAY OF JUDGMENT," says The Universal Jewish Encvclopedia, dominates the ten-day penitential season and "is expressed particularly in the Unethanneh Tokef prayer of Yom Kippur." With the Day of Atonement seen to be a day of JUDGMENT, we sense immediately that the cleansing of the sanctuary in Daniel 8:14 is closely parallel to the judgment scene of Daniel 7 and to the arrival of the supernatural stone in Daniel 2. We are on firm ground. Unfolding parallelism is one of the principal keys to understanding the book of Daniel.

So here we see that the trumpet blew loud and clear to announce the arrival of the event. Even symbolically we are told that this forewarning MUST take place. Where then do we get the fulfillment of the statement?

IN THE MILLERITE MOVEMENT!

Again, the Lord permitted a misconception to enter into the interpretation. The Lord permitted them to predate the event even to 1843, keeping them in repentance and preparation clear through to 1844, therefore spanning through any period prior that Christ could have entered. Even if Christ went in in September of 1844, the entire event was covered through the misconception of the people.  They continued to look for the Lord after 1843 and then continued preparation to meet him till after October 22nd of that year.  Many who attack Adventism tell us that the actual Day of Atonement that year took place in September.

[What this is saying is that even if the Adventists were wrong, and the Day of Atonement actually took place in September of 1844 instead of October, their misconception actually worked for good.  They were tirelessly repenting and supplicating before God for the remission of their sins and the saving of the lost right through September of that year.

Understand it this way: If we believed Y2K or the year 2000 was coming, and that at that time most crucial computers would go haywire and there'd be a crisis, when would we know that the crisis is over and to relax our efforts?  Simple: almost to the very hour after the appointed time.  After that time passed, WE WOULD THEN RELAX OUR EFFORTS AND CONCERNS!  The same was true of the Millerite Movement.  If they viewed that Christ would come October 22, 1844 and He did not appear at that time, but they were five days off and he was to come October 27th instead, they would have already relaxed their efforts and would not be supplicating and repenting.  By having a misconception to October instead of September, as our antagonists say, they were supplicating all through that earlier time our antagonists claimed was the actual time for the Day of Atonement to arrive.  The misconception worked out for good and just as how God would have planned.]

If the misconception were not permitted, their urgency about the matter may well be the similar to our urgency when Y2K or the new millenium came. As this was not just a new year, not just a new decade and not even just a new century to consider, all the Adventist Churches should have been in earnest prayer and fasting for the event. A new year is as special as it is for a re-dedication to God and for solemn services. But the presentation of a new millenium did nothing for us as a people. We certainly didn't believe that God would meet Y2K.

Things would have been different had we believed that God was coming then or that probation would be closed. We therefore see that the Millerites are honored of heaven, but not of hell. Things are operating as expected.
